[ It's weird to have Ichigo in his arms and being so theoretically fragile, something Renji doesn't really consider until maybe five stories up when he's aware of his fingers sinking deep into the fabric of his shihakushou and poking into his arm. Renji makes a surreptitious move to stabilize his grip, their ascent turning a little smoother as they climb. ]
Free to quit now, if you want. [ Grumbled the next second at around fifteen stories in the air. It's the best he can come up with for either of Ichigo's sarcastic comments lobbed at him, okay. He's busy right now.
Scaling the rest of the building takes hardly any time at all, the sprawl of the city spreading as they soar higher and higher. The trees lose definition as they turn to a vast expanse of green and structures of glass and metal reflect the light in a way that Renji still hasn't become accustomed to. It's a pretty good way to get the lay of the land, and he wonders why he hasn't thought to do it before. Maybe he's too used to the limited space of a station.
At the summit of the tower, Renji finds a flat spot to land and deposit his baggage. ]
Well? Wasn't so bad, was it? [ He peers down over the ledge to the milling dots below. ] Doesn't look like they're comin' after us either.
[ The sheer smugness as he turns back to Ichigo radiates with such intensity that it could probably beat out the sun. Still, he did get them both out of getting down to the station, so... mission accomplished? ]
[ichigo is incredibly tempted to 'quit now' and just jump off of renji out of spite. common sense wins out over spite, though, and he hangs on to the other man regardless of his inclinations. he could be a smartass about it later, he supposed, when he wasn't several stories in the air with no viable way back down on his own.
once he's finally back on his own two feet, ichigo peers down over the side of the building to see if he could get a look at their would-be pursuers. he doesn't see anything flying up after them, for now, so he supposes they're in the clear.
renji's smug face doesn't really help the urge to kick him right off the side of the building, but he restrains himself. he's his only ticket back down from here, after all, and ichigo probably shouldn't be pissing him off further.]
Yeah, yeah, good job. [he rolls his eyes, because the smugness is just insufferable regardless.] At least we're not going to space-jail for your random acts of violence.
[ Considering Renji's luck with dodging Ichigo, he ought to be grateful that Ichigo managed to resist the urge to kick him because he would have been flung straight off. ]
It wasn't random! Those bots would've blown half the park away!
[ Renji sounds extremely defensive, like he's already preparing a statement to the space cops in case they ever do find a way to scale this building and grab him. ]
You oughta be thankin' me, they'd have blown your clothes off too!!
