[ Renji was alarmed, worried that something had happened to Keigo as soon as he received that reply. It sounded strangely despondent and even the hint of melodrama wasn't so much exaggeration as genuine desperation. His senses reached out by instinct to find Keigo in his room but no clues for what prompted this.

Immediately, Renji thought that this was about the VR experience after all and he wished he'd never replied. He still hadn't sorted out what to say, if he should say anything at all.

He couldn't guess that Keigo would feel like this after what had happened though, with the tone of it edging towards despair. Then again, maybe he should have been more rattled. If this station could make him feel... that overwhelmingly about Keigo, could it trick him into hating him? Or hurting him? He didn't want to think so. He couldn't think so. He was sure that there was no way that he'd ever lay a hand on someone he cared about again, illusions or fantasies or whatever else. And he was pretty sure that wasn't what Keigo was concerned about anyway.

If he had money, he'd bet that Keigo was more worried about the aftermath. That it jeopardized their friendship-with-benefits. Maybe he was just too nervous to say it outright.

That deserved something more than an off-hand response. The message he sent back was carefully composed, judging by how short it was compared to the length it took him to answer, and obviously took a lot of willpower to just not delete out of sheer embarrassment, knowing him.

No matter what happens next, whatever this station throws, it ain't changing anything. You can always rely on me.
