CRAU History: Game Info + FAQ | Kink Bingo & You

[community profile] lagunbiru was a pwp sandbox game set on the eponymous space station. The premise of the game, in a nutshell, was that characters were pulled in from their world onto a luxury space station after seemingly signing a contract to fulfill the station's requirements before they could go home. Requirements could range from staying for a certain period of time to completing one or more bingo cards, where instead of numbers and letters in the squares there were various kinks that were filled by performing or engaging with the kink. Monthly events were created mostly for facilitating sexual encounters and there was no over-arching plot. More about the setting can be read in the links above.

Because of the circumstances of his arrival, not remembering the contract that got him into his mess and then getting drugged with aphrodisiac on his first week at the station, Renji was extremely mistrustful of the setting at first. Knowing that people might need to fill an indefinite number of cards before being allowed home made him wary to participate in events, although he repeatedly ended up dragged into them anyway. After a gradual process of realizing that there was no other way of escape and a slow acclimation to the setting, Renji began to actively participate in the setting in the hopes of returning home. He frequently was helped, mostly accidentally, by Keigo Asano (whose player is also apping this CRAU). Renji built some tentative bonds with his fellow inmates residing on the station which made the stay somewhat easier, though he was never able to be fully comfortable in the station.

The greatest change with Renji during his stay in Lagunbiru is his relationship with Keigo. While they hardly interacted in canon, they're extremely close now due to their shared experience in cushy captivity and the frequency with which they were forced (and then voluntarily chose to be) together.

Other than his close relationship with Keigo, the stay in Lagunbiru hasn't changed Renji dramatically. He's mostly the same rough-around-the-edges man he was when he came in, but after being bombarded with nothing but sexual imagery and aphrodisiacs, along with getting caught in more erotic situations than he has fingers to count with, he is now more inured to risque situations than he would normally be. He's still not particularly eager to jump into them, but he will be slightly less appalled by them.

Renji is also more familiar with advanced technology like space stations and virtual reality, where canonically his life in Soul Society was limited to feudal era technology with some anachronistic exceptions like cell phones. The virtual reality systems on Lagunbiru were highly advanced, to the point that they could convince a person that they had always lived inside the virtual setting. It'll take him a while before he's not fully convinced that Prismatica isn't another virtual reality, but once Renji is convinced of its material existence, he'll be happy to actually feel the breeze in his hair and the ground under his feet again. He'll also be feeling quite confident that if he broke out of one sexy space prison, he'll be able to get out of another one.

PERSONALITY:
In a lot of ways, Renji is a "what you see is what you get" kind of guy. His temper matches his fiery red hair, and he's just as wild and barely restrained. The tattoos all over his body that scream "I'm a tough guy" prove fairly accurate when first meeting him, if the nearly perpetual expression of mild annoyance and the gruff way of speaking wasn't enough to cement the impression that he's a guy not to be fucked with. Renji looks like a dude who could kick your ass, and deep down he is definitely a dude who can kick your ass. (Like 7 times out of 10.)

What you don't see is that Renji is an unfalteringly determined man. Once he sets his sights on something, he will work day and night to reach it. If there is anything that can be said to his credit, it's that he has laser-like focus on his goals and toils without complaint to reach them. This tenacity was ingrained in him from growing up as an orphan in one of the worst districts in Soul Society. He had to learn to survive under conditions that were harsh for the adults scraping together a living there, much less a group of children. That upbringing was the forge not just for his determination and tenacity, but also his rebelliousness, his yearning for betterment, and his deep care for those close to him.

Renji is also more intelligent than he looks. Which, to be fair, is not saying much. However, he was enrolled in advanced classes when he was training to be a Soul Reaper (or "shinigami"). This was all the more remarkable for how he did not have the privileged upbringing that many of his classmates enjoyed, and he capitalized on this chance by working even harder in his studies. Also, in spite of being born and raised in the slums of Inuzuri with no formal education, he's managed to maneuver himself through the complex workings of Seireitei's bureaucracy to a prominent rank.

That intelligence doesn't always translate into common sense, though. Renji's first instinct is usually to do the most reckless thing possible. He's prone to losing his temper and quick to jump into fights, which doesn't help his decision-making process any. However, what he lacks in tactics he makes up for in combat experience and utter tenacity. Renji has fought a lot of battles, was in fact a member of a squad devoted solely to physical combat, and that experience allows him to get a fair read on opponents. While he knows when to run and regroup when he's outmatched, when he sets his mind on defeating someone, "surrender" is no longer part of his vocabulary. Although his fighting style tends to be kind of haphazard and risky, it's also kept him alive up until this point.

Renji is also preoccupied with his humble background and struggles with measuring himself against his betters. Because Soul Society has such an emphasis on wealth and family as a way of judging a person's worth, being a man who had neither meant that he had to work tirelessly to polish his natural talents. His preoccupation with his self-worth is at both turns a paralyzing fear and one of the greatest motivators to drive him forward in pursuit of the strength and rank he feels he needs to prove his worth. He can be incredibly competitive with other people because of this, and losses weigh heavily on his mind. This complex is less pronounced these days, partly due to repairing his relationship with Rukia, but he still constantly trains, constantly tries to improve himself, because he is acutely aware that there is always someone better and that knowledge gnaws at him out of the corner of his mind. Because Renji is so aware of his deficits, he's also willing to rely on other people, albeit sometimes reluctantly. While he's a proud man by nature, Renji puts a lot of trust in the strength of his allies, whether that's their superior strategic prowess or simple, raw power.

Despite his rough appearance and manners, Renji also has a tender side to him that comes out around his friends. While by default he usually treats those he's close to with light mocking and affectionate ass-kicking, he cares about them deeply and values the strong bonds he's made. His friends are in many ways his moral center, and he will act to their benefit before his own every time, even if those actions can sometimes be misguided. He is always there to rush to their rescue and be at their side to fight, literally carrying them through a tough battle if he must. Getting him to express this sentimentality is a bit like pulling teeth, though. He often has to work himself up into saying things with heartfelt emotion, and when he does get sappy, he'll quickly shift back into his usual coarseness. Hopefully the rare sighting of him saying something nice is enough to make up for that awkwardness.

Overall, Renji is foremost a man of contradiction. He tends to play it cool and calm as a matter of course, but it really doesn't that much to annoy him and when tensions run high he can barely restrain his emotions. He can be incredibly patient and wait for decades if he has to in order to accomplish his goals, but he can also turn around and act completely reckless and impulsive, especially in battle. He holds a position of authority as the second-in-command of a military division, but deep in his bones he's a rebellious stray from the slums of Rukongai.

POWERS/ABILITIES:
  • ENHANCED PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES: Renji has enhanced strength, endurance, durability, and speed due to being a Soul Reaper. He's strong enough to block punches that crater the ground and he can move short distances very quickly using a technique called Shunpo (or "Flash Step"). In game, this can be nerfed to however strong/fast he needs to be to not break the setting.
  • SPIRITUAL POWER: Being a lieutenant-level Soul Reaper, Renji has a considerable amount of spiritual power. This allows him to sense other living beings without relying on the other five senses and also lets him see spiritual phenomena like ghosts. (Being a spiritual phenomenon himself helps with that too, of course.) It also lends itself to combat, where he can use it to enhance his physical power, cast Kido spells, and wield his Zanpakuto. More on that below.
  • KIDO: Kido is a form of combat that Soul Reapers employ. They are in essence spells divided into three different specialties (offensive, healing, and binding) and numbered from #1 to #99 from the least to most difficult. Kido barely counts as a skill for Renji, since he has difficulty controlling the power of his spells. He hasn't mastered any offensive Kido past the #30s or so and rarely uses it in combat, as his spells are just as likely to not work or backfire on him. There's not really a need to nerf these abilities because he sucks at it so much.
  • COMBAT: Renji has trained in combat most of his life and has excellent swordsmanship abilities. It's also strongly implied that his hand-to-hand capabilities aren't too bad either, seeing as he was once thrown into a pit of angry sword souls with nothing but his fists to beat them into submission and triumphed after fighting them for three days.
  • ZANPAKUTO: Zanpakuto are swords wielded primarily by Soul Reapers and are the physical manifestations of their owner's soul. In general they take the form of a normal katana before they are released. Names are incredibly important in wielding Zanpakuto and are the key to unlocking their power. Renji's Zanpakuto is named Zabimaru.
    • SHIKAI: The first release state of a Zanpakuto. In addition to boosting his base stats, Zabimaru transforms into a large segmented whipsword that Renji uses to slash and throw his opponents. Its shape gives it plenty of versatility, but it's disadvantaged at close combat. He also can only make three consecutive swings before his segments have to return to their original form.
    • BANKAI: The final release state of a Zanpakuto. When released it increases the wielder's abilities several times over. Renji's Zanpakuto has two different release states owing to the fact that Zabimaru gave him a false name the first time he tried to achieve bankai. The "unfinished" form of his bankai is called Hihio Zabimaru and manifests as an enormous bone snake that he wields by the tail. It's capable of shooting projectiles from the mouth and biting and ramming opponents. In the game, releasing his bankai will expend a large amount of Chroma and will exhaust Renji to the point of near immobility once his Chroma runs out. The true form of his bankai is called Souou Zabimaru, but at this canon point he isn't aware of that.

INVENTORY:
He travels pretty light so the only things he's got on him are:
  • His shihakusho, the uniform for a Soul Reaper that consists of a black outer robe and hakama and white underclothes
  • His zanpakuto, Zabimaru
  • The sunglasses Keigo got him for his birthday
  • The ring Shell gave him for his birthday

MOONBLESSING:
